Installing on Windows? Start here.

Open the downloaded setup.exe, choose Install, then open Hall-e from the Start menu. Everything needed to run it is included; a normal installation needs no administrator password.

This preview is unsigned. If Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”, verify the download source, then choose More info → Run anyway, when available. Smart App Control, S mode, or a work computer’s policy may block it. Do not disable security protections; ask your IT administrator on a managed computer.

Includes recording, notes, projects, playback, export, and local or optional cloud transcription. Advanced Mac integrations are not included. Windows on ARM is not supported by this installer.

A new companion.
Four small steps.

  1. 01

    Choose your Mac.

    Open the Apple menu → About This Mac. An Apple M-series chip uses Apple silicon; an Intel processor uses Intel.

  2. 02

    Make yourself at home.

    Open the downloaded DMG, drag Hall-e into Applications, eject the disk image, and try to open Hall-e from Applications.

  3. 03

    Let macOS approve Hall-e.

    If macOS says Apple can’t verify Hall-e, close that message. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to Security, and click Open Anyway beside Hall-e. Confirm with Touch ID or your Mac login password, then click Open.

  4. 04

    Say hello.

    Choose your language and allow the microphone. Connect your Deepgram or Speechmatics key with Save & test and allow audio processing, or choose on-device speech recognition. Speechmatics also needs a region and Model Training turned off. Try the optional eight-second audio check.

Why macOS asks

The current public release is signed but not Apple-notarized, so Gatekeeper may require this one-time approval. Verify that you downloaded Hall-e from the official Hall-e release. Open Anyway approves Hall-e specifically; you do not need to disable macOS security. Managed Macs may still need IT approval.

macOS 14+; capturing meeting-app audio needs 14.2+. Local transcription depends on a supported language model. Cloud providers are optional and require your own account and permission.
